B&A: Dated Jack & Jill Bathroom Gets a Fresh New Look (and Two Gorgeous Linen Cabinets!)

BEFORE & AFTER

Back in the spring 2020 ORC, Laura of Love Living Here Design Co. transformed this Jack & Jill bathroom truly beyond recognition. She put lots of care and attention to detail into each of her design choices, and that hard work definitely paid off. Oh yeah, and did we mention she did it all DIY?

Demo for this project involved removing the vanities, mirrors, etc., ripping out the old tile, and smoothing the walls.

The design plan for the space started with the wallpaper, which Laura said had been on her “design bucket list” for a while. Laura chose these beautiful black matte subway tiles because the smaller scale and rectangular shape perfectly contrasted the large scale, organic pattern of the wallpaper.

She made sure she had the center line of the room and laid out the pattern before doing any installation, which was time consuming but crucial to making the stacked pattern look right. For the grout, she chose the darkest she could find (did you know it’s hard to find black grout?), and it looks so subtle and gorgeous.

Another big change in the space was the addition of the two gorgeous linen cabinets. Laura said she tries to add at least one built-in storage element to every room in her house that she renovates, since it was lacking in storage space when she first bought it. She couldn’t find anything available in the size she needed, so she whipped these up herself (you can read more about that process here).

Shrinking the width of the vanities to add the cabinets allowed her to take advantage of quite a bit of unused vertical space, and the natural wood adds such a lovely splash of warmth to the space.

Last but not least came the finishing touches, which included installing the new vanities, hanging the very cool organic-shaped mirrors, updating the door hardware, and putting in the new gorgeous light fixtures.

The finished bathroom is beautiful, and you can tell how much thought and work went into each element. Laura should be so proud!
