B&A: Gorgeous Traditional Colonial Powder Bathroom

BEFORE & AFTER

This gorgeous powder bathroom is by Murphy Lane from the fall ‘22 One Room Challenge® event. Makenzie and her fiancé Matt purchased their house in 2021, loving the traditional colonial exterior of the home and planning to update the dated interior.

Their original plan for the powder bathroom was to give it a cosmetic makeover to make it reflect both their style and the traditional colonial exterior. However, as they began pulling off the old baseboards, they found quite a bit of mold, and went back to the drawing board to plan for a full-gut.

Makenzie and Matt did almost all of the labor themselves in order to save money for their upcoming wedding, including stripping the room back to the studs, drywalling, tiling, and wallpapering. They only left the plumbing to a professional, which was definitely wise. The source of all the water damage turned out to be a broken toilet flange.

As infuriating as it must have been to have to scrap their original plans and gut their powder bathroom, Makenzie and Matt didn’t let it stop them from creating an incredible space. The new bathroom has so much personality and charm. They should be very proud of themselves!
