B&A: Down-to-the-Studs Bathroom Renovation Transforms Dated Space Into Luxurious Retreat

BEFORE & AFTER

During the fall ‘22 ORC, Princess of Noire Motif tackled a gut renovation of her kids’ bathroom. Her goal was to create a bathroom that her kids would love, but that also felt mature enough to grow with them and eventually be used for guests once her kids have flown the coop.

Since the original bathroom was so dark, dated, and not especially functional, Princess decided to go all in and gut the bathroom completely so she could start with a fresh canvas.

Firstly, although our primary focus is the before versus after, we simply must take a moment and make a little noise for Princess’s incredible DIY skills. She did almost every single part of this renovation herself, including roughing in the plumbing and building the vanity from scratch. According to Princess, it’s a result of 10 years of experience and a degree from YouTube University. We’re taking notes.

Back to the B&A—Princess chose an earthy palette of green, white, and grey. For the new tile, she went with big 12x24 light grey porcelain tiles on the floor, and glazed ceramic tile in the shower. Both look beautiful while still being durable enough and easy to clean for a kids’ bathroom.

Princess decided to completely remove the linen closet after some back and forth because it had neither form nor function. The new built-in shelving and cabinet makes this section of the room so much less crowded feeling, and it saves everyone from having to deal with the two doors opening into each other.

The new shower curtain rod is all the way up at the ceiling. When I finally noticed that change my jaw dropped—it makes SUCH a big difference in making the space feel elevated and luxurious.

The custom vanity is hands-down the star of the show. She decided to do drawers wall-to-wall, since her kids needed extra storage and the vanity stool area was wasted space. She also replaced the old mirrors with taller ones, which make the room feel so much bigger and lighter. The reeded wall detail adds so much character to the room, and the shade of green she chose is absolutely stunning.

To create such a luxurious and functional bathroom from scratch took immense vision and attention to detail. We are amazed! The kids unsurprisingly love the new bathroom as well—her middle daughter calls it “the Pinterest bathroom.”
